The Paradox of Life

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider Freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.
We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.
We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.
We’ve learned how to make a living, but not a life. We’ve added years to life not life to years. We’ve been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We’ve done larger things, but not better things.
We’ve cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We’ve conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We’ve learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.
These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete…
Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.
Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.
Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn’t cost a cent.
Remember, to say, ‘I love you’ to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.
Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.
Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.
AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

Coco avant Chanel

Just watched the movie "Coco avant Chanel", I was interest for so long on watching it. Today, finally, I saw it. Inspired in the early life of the great fashion designer Coco Chanel. The film shows a woman that knows what she wants, with thoughts different from the ones established by the french society. One were women were supposed to wear the "horrible" corset, wear as much jewelry as  possible and hats so big they could barely walk. This movie remind us that is fine to think with no box, to know what we like and not to force anyone to like it, because when you are confident with who you are, others less confident want to be you, or at least make your ideals the same. And if you ask me, there's no better way of flattery.

To Read:

I've always been an avid reader, lately though I have been reading less, somehow I have lost interest in the kind of books that once used to please me. That's the reason I decided to make a list of the books that I'll like to read and the reason behind my decision to that certain choice.

1. Freakonomics

I've wanted to read this book for quite a while, since the first time I saw it at a local (an personal favorite library). It's content seems very interesting because it gives another approach to the side of economies that not all want to discuss.

2. Atonement

This is one of my favorites movies, it's different, it's tragic, but somehow the story seems a bit more approachable than the happy unrealistic finish that many movies have. Also, I'm a true believer that books are better than movies, when you read you feel all the emotions of the characters as if it were yours.

3. Anna Karenina

After I read a short story by Tolstoy I have always been interested in reading this book by him. The summary seems quite intriguing and very fascinating.

4.Superfreakonomics

Sequel of "Freakonomics", basically want to read it for the sames reasons.

5. Persuasion

Jane Austen is my favorite classical author after I read "Pride and Prejudice". Her wit and perception of the society and relationships are what made her such an amazing writer, besides being too advanced to the time that she lived in.

P.S: This are not listed in order of importance. And there are probably more books, I just can't remember.

Everest

(Source: Everest)

At 5am (Nepal's time) three dominicans stepped on the highest place on earth, Mount Everest, making every single dominican proud of their work. Being where others have never thought of being. Accidentally I ran into a quote that shows what they did. It says: Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiam.- Ralph Waldo Emerson. I agree with him, because the enthusiam leads us to work hard, to be passionate, to be happy of what we do.

What these dominicans did shows that it doesnt matter where you from, or your background, in the end you are being recognized for what you did, whether is good or bad. We choose how to be remembered. They are the firsts dominicans ever to do that and sharing with them the same nationality makes me proud. There's no barrier that separate us from our dreams, except ourselves. So who knows maybe someday I'm the first dominican ever to do something amazing as well.

The end of the world?

(Source: We heart it)

So apparently tomorrow is the "end of the world", or more explicit, a five month final judgement will start. The thing is few people believe that, and no, I'm not included. I believe the day that happens, nobody will expect it. It'll surprise everybody, not taken like a joke.

But if the world ends tomorrow imagine all things you didnt do, all the things you want but never got. So if the world or your life will end someday, why don't live the way you want? why worry so much about stuff that aren't that important as your happiness? what about being happy now and forget about troubles?
Life is short, and even if all this end of the world non-sense is trendy right now, why not take it as an opportunity to start feeling alive?

Am I that old?

I felt old watching this probably because I love most of the things there. But it's also the natural course of live. Ten years ago I was in 5th grade, being scared of simple things I'm enjoying now. So in 10years, I expect to be loving what now scares me.

I know I'm young, but I also have like 4-6 years already planned. And I'm making sure, that they WILL happen.

Stalking Cat.

I have cats, but I think this one is funny in its own way. Would love that my cats where as amazing as this one.
But I also think is creepy, I mean I could see a cat like that killing me.

Procrastination.

Is so hard sometimes, to stop procrastinating and do my homework, is like there is no strenght in me. So I'll stop the things I'm doing now, and do my homework. To get those big plans.

Es tan dificl, dejar de desperdiciar el tiempo y hacer mis tareas, es como si no tuviera fuerzas para detenerme. Asi que parare de hacer lo que estoy haciendo y hare mis tareas. Para conseguir mis grandes planes.
